Pixelbox

This page will be the final step-by-step guide and photo gallery for my Pixelbox micro arcade cabinet.

Pixelbox is a tiny, arcade game emulation cabinet. It will have most of the same capabilities as a full-sized arcade cabinet. The laser-cut acrylic box stands about 13" tall and is about 10" wide. The cabinet is powered by a 2GHZ Pentium M processor with 1 gig of RAM. The cabinet has a one-player control panel with Sanwa arcade parts and a Happ 1.5" trackball.

Here's a WIP image of the case:

In this picture, the LCD is plugged into my desktop system. I'm currently working on finishing the internals and artwork. More pictures and information coming soon!

thats totally sexy…. right on… wish I could have one… :D

This is very smart. Will it ever be on the market, and how much do you think it will cost to buy?

- Carl

I’m going to try to follow in your footsteps on this one and build a mini cab. I’ll probably use the same Sanwa controls and Happ trackball. I’ll probably order some plastic and cut it with a router. And I think I’m going to hack an Eee PC for the guts of the case. One of the new 901 models would be about the same screen size as what you have there.

Excellent work on this project, though. Your design is top-notch. Very elegant.

Over at BYOAC, you have pics of a white version during laser cutting and then the cut pieces. I’d sure love to see that one put together.

Any update on this project? I’d sure like to see it finished with the mini marquee all lit up! :)

Who did you get to cut the acrylic for you? How did you bond them together please? Awesome project! I’m going to make one. Got an awesome idea fr a Pacman themed bar-top.

I got the acrylic from the laser cutter. Most laser cutting services should stock their own acrylic, but you could also send them some from a plastic supply place.

The best glue for acrylic is IPS Weld-on. It actually fuses the pieces together at the molecular level. Awesome stuff, but work outside. The fumes are potentially toxic. Get Weld-on # 16. It has a syrup-like thickness that can help with small gaps and such.

Geesh, that’s cool. Finish it. And then get some Super Mario going!
